Leaving the Financial District Behind…
I didn’t realize how coffee / tea breaks had become a part of my daily life until I changed job environments recently. Up until a month ago, I was working in the financial core and you don’t really think about how many Starbucks or Timmy’s there are in and around the PATH.
Even though I brought my own teas, I still went to Starbucks and Timmy’s quite often. There is a Timmy’s downstairs where I work now, but it’s not quite the same as picking up that chai latte once or twice a week. I could walk down the street to get it, which in reality, is actually the same distance as the walk from my old office to the usual location. For some reason, I just haven’t made my way to any Starbucks in the area.
My brother used to always laugh about my coffee breaks because he’d see me on a coffee break and I had a one-track mind and didn’t even notice him on my way to get my tea or coffee. That, or I was talking to someone else. It’s so easy to bump into someone you know (friend, acquaintance, ex-colleague, current colleague…) in the financial core. Now that I’m a bit more west of the core, I’ve bumped into one friend who works down the street, but that’s about it. A quick lunch with friends is no longer possible, but there are perks. The food options out here are definitely better! I am considering the infinite possibilities for dinner tonight as I type this.
