What’s on my playlist? (Week of June 29th, 2015)

Hello again, my friends!

Ready to find out what’s on my current playlist? Here we go!

1. “Renegades” – X Ambassadors
I cannot tell you how much I love X Ambassadors. I stumbled upon their music a few years back and haven’t stopped listening since. Suffice to say, I’m really digging their new single “Renegades” – I always catch myself singing along to the chorus when I have it on during car rides. I’m excited to listen to their debut album!

2. “Little Toy Guns” – Carrie Underwood
Carrie Underwood has really grown since her days from “American Idol” and her music has definitely grown on me. I was never a fan of her inaugural song, but I’m glad she strayed from that. “Little Toy Guns” is such a powerful track and only someone with vocals like Carrie could carry the message within the song.

3. “My House” – 2PM
2PM are back! “My House” was written by Jun. K – so big kudos to him. This track is so fun to listen to and I can’t help but chair dance to it (yes, chair dance…).

4. “How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful” – Florence + The Machine
One of the things I love so much about Florence + The Machine is how hauntingly beautiful their music is. One of my favourite tracks from them is “Never Let Me Go” and it’s hard not to listen to that song without feeling a little mushy about it.

“How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful” has such an incredible build up that made me instantly fall in love with the track. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the album version on YouTube, but this live version is pretty darn good too!

5. “Back To Gold” – Dear Rouge
This band reminds me of a mix of Florence + The Machine and MS MR. I heard this track for the first time on the radio and had to Soundcloud, so I wouldn’t forget it.

6. “This Summer Is Going To Hurt Like A Motherf****r” – Maroon 5
I was a huge fan of Maroon 5’s music in their earlier “Songs About Jane” year, but lately their music has been a hit or a miss for me. While it’s not my favourite track by them, “This Summer…” is actually pretty catchy – preferably the explicit version because “mother rougher” doesn’t quite sound the same.

7. “Awoo” – Lim Kim
Lim Kim is easily the quirkiest K-pop singer I’ve come across thus far. “Awoo” is definitely not going to be everybody’s cup of tea, but I love how it strays from your typical bubble gum K-pop music.

I should also note that she was once part of an “American Idol” type show in Korea and auditioned with Jamiroquai’s “Virtual Insanity”. That’s pretty awesome in my books.

8. “Mr. Brownstone” – Guns N Roses
Rock music will always be my favourite genre and GNR is easily one of my favourite bands to blare during a long car ride. “Mr. Brownstone” is just so fun to listen to and now that my hair is long, I can kinda headbang…

9. “Heart Shaped Box” – Nirvana
I’m getting really pumped for my upcoming Foo Fighters concert. So when I was digging up all of their songs, I couldn’t help but listen to Nirvana. “Heart Shaped Box” is one of those songs that just sticks with you. Once you’ve listened to it, you just crave to hear it again.

10. “Greatest Hits (Complete Album)” – Shania Twain
Okay, I cheated a bit, but I couldn’t pick just ONE Shania song that I’ve been listening to. I had been prepping for her concert in Toronto, so her album was in heavy rotation. Her concert, by the way, was really incredible – she still knows how to put on a show!

Happy listening :)!
